Each year during the Trade Show we plan a special Educati
onal Event designed to give association board members, homeowners and condominium owners the opportunity to pique their knowledge of responsible community governance. This year we’ve enlarged our agenda to include both a lecture on the new laws affecting Texas associations, and a series of “Ask-the-Expert Roundtables” where you have the opportunity to ask our experts about those issues keeping you awake at night.
Your registration and fee payment include all events: Trade Show, Lecture and Roundtables.
Lecture: “New 2011 Legislation Affecting Texas Associations”
Connie Heyer, Esq.,is a member of CAI Austin’s board of directors and liaison to the Texas Community Association Advocates board of directors. She will summarize the new Texas legislation passed into law this year and the impact it will have upon your association
Roundtables: 5 Topics to Choose From
Select any 3 topics of interest from the list below, and join other association leaders and managers in 30-minute discussions with industry and association experts on each topic. All topics will be available during each of the 3 sessions. At the end of each session, you’ll be given a 10 minute break before the start of the next. You may change your topic roundtable at any time—this event is for you; we want you to benefit the most from your time there.
Bring a friend or two and participate in all the topic discussions!
- Technology – Members will have the opportunity to find out how technology such as websites, software and various applications can help move your community forward with new ways to communicate with residents, improve and streamline day to day association business.

- Mediation - Understanding how mediation can assist you in resolving potential problems while keeping down overall legal cost yet reaching a satisfactory outcome for all involved.

- Reserves - Find out why you need to establish reserves, the importance of planning and budgeting for future repairs and replacement. Why you should have a reserve fund study. How you can finance future repairs , replacement and improvements when needed.

- Finance/Insurance - Speak with a CPA on the importance of performing an audit in your community. Also ask questions regarding best accounting practices. Get answers to your questions on your insurance concerns.

- 7 Deadly Sins of Association Boards - Speak with a lawyer and manager about the most common “pitfalls” of POAs and their boards. Learn how to avoid these pitfalls, and discuss “best practices”.

You may pre-register online here. Your registration inlcudes all events: Trade Show, Lecture and Roundtables. Once your registration has been received, your confirmation will contain instructions for online payment via PayPal (you don’t need to be a member of either PayPal or CAI to use this convenience) or by check made payable to CAI Austin, and mailed to:

Two ways to register:

Register 5 or more from the same neighborhood at our “Neighborhood Special” price of just a flat $40. (CAI membership is not required)

Otherwise, register as individuals at $10 per person (members)/$15 per person (non-members)

Trade Show sponsorship is THE way to get out ahead of the crowd while at the same time supporting your CAI Austin chapter. Sponsors are acknowledged at our luncheons, identified in our magazine, listed on the event website and advertised with signage at the event.
